Bio/Education:

Descended from artists, Dr. Steve Laverson, M.D. has inborn ability and was raised in a creative environment. Also interested in science and engineering, Dr. Laverson attended the United States Naval Academy on a Congressional Appointment from 1975-77, and graduated summa cum laude with a zoology major from the University of Maryland in 1979. Fearing the drudgery and loneliness of laboratory research, Dr. Laverson applied to medical school, and was admitted to the University of Maryland at Baltimore. The hospital environment was unpleasant for Dr. Laverson as a third year student, until he learned about the specialty of plastic surgery. Only then did Dr. Laverson realize there was a place in medicine for him; plastic surgery was a specialty he knew he would enjoy, and that would put his natural ability to good use. Because Dr. Laverson loves human beauty, human victory in life's struggles, and because he understands the great importance of personal appearance to self identity, from that moment on he has had a strong passion to gift beauty and improved quality of life for others to enjoy and to benefit from.

Dr. Steve Laverson, M.D.’s professional foundation was established during ten postgraduate years of disciplined study and apprenticeship in the art and science of surgery at respected teaching hospitals in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York. Dr. Laverson passed oral and written board examinations to become certified by the American Board of Surgery (1992) and by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (1995). Dr. Laverson re-certified in Plastic Surgery in 2005. Dr. Laverson is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and has maintained busy offices in North San Diego County since 1993.

Medical school and surgical specialty training help develop a strong ethic of service in physicians, a philosophy that Dr. Steve Laverson. M.D. feels most comfortable with. The value of a professional correlates with the value of service he or she provides to others. After entering practice, Dr. Laverson observed many patients seeking "celebrity" plastic surgeons for their cosmetic procedures. The attribute most common among "celebrity" surgeons is egocentrism. Surgeons committed to the very highest standards of their craft, like other great professionals, are always pursuing the eternally elusive goal of perfection. Perfection is a humbling master. Egocentrism implies either the delusion that perfection has been achieved (and thus a poor understanding of what perfection is), or, alternatively, lower standards that are more easily met. Either way, in Dr. Laverson's view, it is impossible for a great surgeon to be egocentric.

Adopting the name "Feel Beautiful" for his practice rather than his own name is Dr. Laverson's way of saying that his practice is not about him, it is about YOU.
